One documented claim states that this was designed by David Thomas - one time director of the Strathmore Woollen Co. in Forfar. However, the clan claims it to be much older and another source has put a date of 1795 on it. Adopted by the Clan Society in 1975 and registered in Lord Lyon Court Book No 36. 27th June 1979.
